From a very young age, I knew I wanted to help people.
I didn't have a clear vision of how that would look or in what capacity but I just knew that somehow I would fulfil my dream of working with individuals who were sick, injured or had varying physical abilities. As I got a little older, my fascination with the human body and health grew deeper and my dream stronger.
I wanted to become a doctor. Doctors impact people's lives and really help them to recover and live a happy, healthy life every day.
That's how I'd do it!
Then, in late adolescence, a terrible accident would exposed me to osteopathy for the first time.
My mother survived a horrific car accident in which she sustained life-threatening injuries. I witnessed first-hand the huge benefit and relief the osteopathic treatment brought her.
In addition, I saw the way my younger brother was significantly assisted through treatment by an osteopath with paediatric experience when he was 2 years old. Continued osteopathic treatment for my family members for various ailments cemented affinity for the profession. While studying osteopathy, I developed a keen interest in sporting injuries and rehabilitation. Working as a trainer for football and soccer clubs, I began to love helping players manage themselves during pre-season, the season and when recovering from injury. Sports injury diagnosis became a keen interest.
Having practised as an osteopath for nearly five years now, I have a strong passion for the profession and gain immense joy from seeing patients empowered to understand the influence and control they can have over their health. The incorporation of clinical pilates further reaffirms to my patients what their bodies are capable of achieving. Osteopaths are allied health professionals, and hence I offer a patient-centred approach to management of musculoskeletal injury, recognising the important link between the structure of the body and the way it functions. Osteopathy brings a holistic focus and uses a range of approaches to enhance function, including mobilisation, stretching, massage and manipulation for ligaments and joints, exercise prescription and recommendation of appropriate lifestyle changes. Look after yourself.
